The Flora Conservancy of Forest Park, established in 1999, is a
not-for-profit organization in partnership with the St. Louis Department of Parks, Recreation
and Forestry, whose mission is to design, enhance and maintain the gardens, savannahs and prairies
as outlined in the Master Plan of Forest Park. The organization is comprised of a dedicated group
of volunteers who work in the Park each week. Individuals have the option of working one of three
days - Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM.
If you enjoy gardening, it is a wonderful opportunity to plant a variety of flowers in a number of
beautiful settings...surrounding the Jewel Box, in front of the Muny Opera, beside the sparkling
lakes and in the native prairies and savannahs. The cultural charm and beauty of Forest Park provide
an enchanting backdrop to your gardening efforts.
You will also have the opportunity to learn while you garden. All volunteers are offered on site
training topic include soil amendments and composting, plant identification, installation and
design.
As a volunteer, it's also a chance to spend time with fellow gardeners - to enjoy the outdoors
together, exchange plant tales and share valuable information and experience. Not only will you
benefit from gardening efforts in terms of knowledge and experience, but the visionary plans of
Forest Park will eventually be realized, a historical landmark of grand beauty that all visitors
may behold.
